Very Short-Term Practice of a Simple Yoga Pose Reduces Adolescent Scoliosis by Almost Half

As someone who spent all of high school in a back brace for scoliosis, I can attest to the importance of a simple yoga posture that can provide as much benefit as a brace. A new study by Dr. Loren Fishman found that adolescents gained as much improvement from doing one movement for a minute and a half a day for two months as I received from the back brace that I wore for 23 hours a day for 3 1/2 years. Adults also experienced significant decreases in their curves. Years after the brace, I discovered that it was critical to address dysfunction in the pelvis / sacroiliac joint and not just the curve itself. Working on pelvic imbalance allowed the curve to straighten out. I'm grateful that I've learned enough - and keep learning through studies like this one - that I can work with others on SI/pelvic imbalances and scoliosis using yoga therapy and Thai massage.
